- Energy Goal - For my energy goal I aim to convince my parents to transition to renewable energy to power our home. This ca be achieved by communicating with our power company, similar to how Scott explained on the solar farm field trip. Doing so would do our part in reducing the reliance on greenhouse gases. Along with this, I aim to introduce installing solar panels on the roof of our home, which I have noticed to be a popular choice by many in my community. This not only help to reduce our personal home fossil fuel usage, but promote clean energy in the neighborhood, and perhaps convince others to flow suit. The above actions will all contribute to creating a community less dependent on fossil fuels.
- Stuff Goal - For my stuff goal, I aim to change my waste management habits, particularly in the realm of recycling. Up until this point, my roommate and I have not been utilizing our recycling bin as we should be, and rather using it as another trash can. I aim to only use this bin for recyclable goods including cans, paper, cardboard, etc. This goal, although small in scale, is a great way to start better managing my personal waste in order to reduce what I sent to landfills.
- Water Goal - For my water goal, I aim to reduce the amount of water I consume when showering. As of right now, I have a habit of taking long, hot showers as I enjoy the feeling of the warm water. My current average shower time is roughly 15 minutes. I have come to learn that this is extremely wasteful, so I aim to cut this time in half, making my average shower time 8 minutes. Along with reducing time, I aim to reduce how hot I set the water temperature to. By doing this I will simultaneously reduce my the amount of water I use and the energy required to heat said water. Both will contribute to less wasted resources.
- Energy Use Goal - For my energy use goal, I aim to use less electricity overall. I plan to do this by unplugging devices when not in use, to eliminate the phantom wattage that comes with them. My labeling my cords, I am able to organize what appliances are drawing power, and which are not. This will lower my personal kw/H usage, and do my part to reduce energy consumption.
- Food Consumption Goal - After what I have learned through the food layer, my goal is to consume less meat in my overall diet. Meat, beef especially, comes with immense environmental impacts and costs. By utilizing resources such as vegetarian dining hall options, I can reduce by meat consumption in order to lessen the effect my diet has on the environment.
A punch list can be for an individual, family, community, company, or city. It is the list of the actions you or a group will undertake and accomplish over a predetermined span of time—one month, one year, five years, or more. You can make different lists for different time periods—this week and this year for example.
